CHEETAH ROBOT sets speed record!

Picture from

Picture from november the 14th 2011, we got our first look at the « FastRunner« , a robot inspired by an ostrich for a challenge sponsored by the « Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency » (DARPA). In this article, we’ve described too the Cheetah robot built by Boston Dynamics company in United States, made for the same DARPA challenge.  We’ve received interesting news about the Cheetah robot…

As Popular Science quoted, « the Boston Dynamics-built Cheetah hits the treadmill, notching what DARPA says is a new land speed record for legged robots at 18 miles per hour (29 km/h) ».

Picture from Dynamics engineers think that their bio-inspired ‘bot can run as fast as their flesh-and-blood counterparts someday. That’s something like 70 miles per hour (113 km/h), way much faster than a running man doing 40 miles per hour (65 km/h) at top speed . It shouldn’t be funny to be chased by a cheetah bot. The movie Red Planet made by Warner Bros picture in 2000 gave us an idea of that feeling…

But a robotized cheetah as a personnal pet may have some advantages…
